Guidelines on Environmental Claims
The Competition Bureau of Canada Releases Its Guidelines on Environmental Claims
The Competition Bureau of Canada has officially provided clarification on its expectations around environmental marketing by releasing guidelines in relation to the Royal Assent of Bill C-59 last year.
These new guidelines are relatively clear:
✨ Claims must be truthful and not misleading
✨ Product performance and environmental benefit claims must be backed by adequate and proper testing
✨ Claims about a business's environmental benefits must be substantiated using internationally recognized methodologies
Whether you're stating a product is “eco-friendly,” your operations are “carbon-neutral,” or your packaging is “sustainable,” these are now regulated claims and subject to scrutiny.
